The weather has left us somewhat behind in the race to prepare a decent strip for the first HOME game of the season, but the groundsmen have finally been able to get out onto the ground and kick off the daunting task ahead of them. With many thanks to them and a call to arms to anyone locally who might wish to lend a light hand or sit on a mower at points throughout the summer. Full training would be provided on site and no experience necessary! This first seniors HOME game is on Saturday 29 th April at 13.00 and sees our reformed League side take on Frensham 2s. Such is the pedigree of some of our new recruits that the I’Anson organisers have (in their wisdom?) brought us straight back in to Division 3 of this 7-tiered league. Captain Oli Hickman has been busy on the recruitment front, and whilst things are shaping up nicely, would be very interested to hear from players wishing to enjoy some good quality and competitive cricket. Oli can be contacted on 07702166007. Of equal quality, although perhaps more so on the tea and chat front, our Sunday friendly side will be in HOME action from Sunday 14 th May at 14.00. Headed up by Woody (07753832323), he too would love to hear from anyone locally who may harbour quiet thoughts of dusting off their whites or be looking for a new club at which to play some fun cricket. It is worth noting that father and teenage son or daughter combo’s have come to the fore over the last couple of years too, so if you fall into that category and would like to play a few games this summer, then please do come forward! If nothing else, the village green is a lovely place to enjoy a sunny afternoon watching on from the boundary, so we hope to see some of you down there before long. A full fixture list for the season ahead can be found here https://www.hambledonsurreycc.co.uk/senior-teams#LeagueXI

Junior cricket in Hambledon, Surrey for Boys & Girls
by Caroline Tristem 18 May, 2022
The new cricket season starts with a win, win…. The first seniors match on Sun 8 May, at home against Bramley, culminated in a well-earned win for Hambledon against traditionally strong opposition. Inclement weather on Sun 15 May regrettable put paid to the chance of building on this success, but hopefully the weather will be kind to us in the coming weeks and please do come down and support us. The full fixture list for June and July is below. Readers will note that the Mary Caroe Cup (Club v Shop) will take place on Sun 26 June this year with the Club looking to retain the trophy. The second “win” was the success of the Club Day held on Saturday 7 May which was very well attended with no complaints yet being received on the quality of the burgers and sausages! The day successfully saw the recruitment of new players at all levels of the Club together with assistance being offered in ground maintenance. We really couldn’t have asked for more and the Club will reap the benefit for years to come. We cannot, however, be complacent and should you wish to help or indeed fancy an outing in a match, please contact us….all are welcome at all age groups. If you want to test any long-lost skills in a friendly environment, we will be holding a nets evening on Wednesday 1 June at the club commencing at 6.30pm. The bowling machine will be in action (at a gentle pace) and for those wishing to test their bowling skills, we have some batting volunteers to face whatever you can deliver! There is no dress code so, if your whites have been lost or no longer fit, just come as you wish. If you have visited the Green, you will see that the new nets and surface construction are well-advanced and these should be ready for use at the end of May. These really are first class facilities to assist in the development of all, but they were expensive for a small Club and any financial assistance via donations would be most welcome. Our grateful thanks to all that have been able contributed so far. Should you not wish to play but instead be interested in coaching, or even helping with the ground, just let us know. Training will be provided. The Juniors operate under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) “Club Mark Policy” with Surrey CC to promote child welfare and protection and as a reminder the colts coaching sessions are as follows:- Coaching for 7 to 11 year old’s: from Saturday, 23 April 9.30am – 11.30am Girls only session U9 and above from Saturday 23 April 11.45am -1.00pm Coaching for 12 to 14 year old’s: from Friday, 22 April 6pm – 8pm All the Junior Teams are up and running with their league and cup fixtures. Match highlights to date include a great win for the Under 12s against Guildford and likewise for the Under 14s against Bramley. Training sessions on Friday’s and Saturday’s are proving very popular, although The Club would still benefit from a greater number of Under 9s within their ranks. To that end we would invite any interested parties down to training on Saturday mornings for a free taster session!

We will be hosting a “One Club” Day on the cricket green on Saturday 7 May from 11.45am to 2pm which will provide a great environment for existing players and members to renew old acquaintance and find out more about what the new season will bring. There will be free burgers on offer and the bar will be open! It is open to all, both existing Senior Players and the parents of Junior Players (along with their children) and is designed with two things in mind – neither of which are mutually exclusive! For the senior and resting senior players this is the chance to come down to the club and hear more about the Senior set up this season. We are a friendly club that caters for all abilities and amongst other things you’ll learn about the net sessions that we are planning to run on some Wednesday evenings to help hone any long lost skills. Friends of friends are of course most welcome here. We have a full fixture list and are always looking for fresh faces! For the parents in the Junior section this is as much about hearing more about the season ahead as it is inviting any keen cricketers amongst you to meet members of the Senior side. Brand new nets and surfaces are being constructed in mid-May and these, coupled with the bowling machine and top coaches, should ensure that we have some of the best facilities in the area. Weather permitting it should be a great day, so we hope to see as many of you there as possible. It will start just after Junior training finishes at 11.45am so, if nothing else, a fabulous burger awaits those picking up their child or children! All the best and hope to see you on the day…..
